In the centre of town the covered indoor market sells all sorts of fabulous fresh local produce: fruit, vegetables, meat and fresh fish are brought up from the port daily. The market is located in the Plaza Celestino Pons and is open from Monday to Friday from 08.00 to 14.00 and then 17.00 to 21.00 and on Saturday mornings from 08.00 to 14.00 There is also an outdoor market held every Thursday on the Plaza de la Constitution.
Javea has been inhabited since prehistoric times as cave dwellers lived in Montgo 30,000 years ago before subsequent entries of Romans, Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthagians, Visigoths, Moors and Germanic people, among others.
